NISH website, formerly the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped NISH is the national nonprofit agency which provides technical assistance to Community Rehabilitation Programs (CRPs) interested in obtaining federal contracts under the AbilityOne Program, formerly the Javits-Wagner-O'Day (JWOD) Program. Through the AbilityOne Program, NISH develops and maintains employment and training opportunities for people with severe disabilities. NISH envisions a society in which citizens with disabilities exercise individual decisions concerning their own lives, including employment, welfare, and personal supports and dignity.
AbilityOne website AbilityOne Program For People Who Are Blind Or Have Other Severe Disabilities, is the independent Federal agency that administers the AbilityOne Program. The Committee's mission is to create employment opportunities for people who are blind or have other severe disabilities by educating Federal customers about their requirement to purchase products and services made available by nonprofit agencies across the country employing such individuals.
NISH, formerly the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped Maryland Works, Inc. is a statewide membership association whose members are dedicated to promoting economic and workforce development. Our members include individual workforce professionals, nonprofit community service organizations, and others who support these goals. Maryland Works' members provide a wide variety of human services for an estimated 20,000 individuals. Collectively, our members employ 10,000 personnel and represent a half billion dollar direct impact on Maryland's economy. Our members share a commitment to matching capable individuals with rewarding jobs while meeting employer needs.
NISH, formerly the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped Developmental Disabilities Administration provides leadership to assure the full participation of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in all aspects of community life. In addition, DDA's goal is to promote their empowerment to access quality supports and services necessary to foster personal growth, independence and productivity. The DDA provides a coordinated service delivery system so that individuals with developmental disabilities receive appropriate services oriented toward the goal of integration into the community. These services are provided through a combination of four state residential centers (providing services to individuals with mental retardation) and a wide array of community based services delivered primarily through a network of non-profit providers.
NISH, formerly the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides programs and services that assist people with disabilities who want to work or keep their current job. For over 70 years, DORS has assisted people with disabilities to become independent and contributing members of their communities. Programs and services for eligible individuals may include vocational evaluation, skills training, academic preparation, and job placement assistance.
