Vocational Rehabilitation
The Jeanne Bussard Center, Inc promotes and provides employment readiness and employment opportunities for qualified individuals with disabilities through education, training, rehabilitation, and work.
Day/Vocational
The primary purpose of the day vocational program at JBC is to provide gainful employment in a setting that is somewhat sheltered, while improving work skills and work behaviors. This is accomplished through remunerative work and personalized or group learning activities. Individuals are expected to perform their job in a setting that is comparable to employment in the community, yet allows for additional training as needed. The support of supervisors, as well as case managers, assists the individuals in their vocational choices.
Day/Habilitation
Day Habilitation Services at JBC offers a program which includes structured activities designed to increase or maintain motor skills, communication skills, personal hygiene skills, leisure skills, and community integration. The support of the day program supervisors, as well as case managers, assists the individuals in their desire to maintain or increase their skill and knowledge levels, as well as community integration.
Deaf Services Program
The Deaf Services Program at JBC can provide a wide range of training and services to meet the needs of the community.

The Jeanne Bussard Center offers Sign Language classes for clients, staff, and family members to help them develop communication skills with hearing imparied individuals in our community.

Additionally, JBC can offer job coaching for those individuals placed into community employment and follow up as needed. This ensures a smooth transition into community employment for hearing impaired individuals.

JBC's Deaf Services Program Manager provides case management services, as well as advocacy, to our hearing-impaired clients.
Supported Employment
The Supported Employment Program at JBC is a human resources solution for area businesses, creating partnerships between local businesses and Jeanne Bussard Center. Our goal is to locate and match individuals with disabilities with current and future labor needs.

The Jeanne Bussard Center, Inc will
  • Review your workforce needs and requirements
  • Identify practical and creative solutions
  • Identify and develop accommodation strategies and approaches for employees with disabilities
  • Identify potential employees
  • Provide on-going training and support services
  • Provide work diversity training

The advantages to the employer are numerous. When you hire a supported employment worker, you benefit from dependability and quality workmanship of an untapped labor pool, workers experiencing disabilities. There is also a Federal and State tax incentive which often substantially underwrites the salary or wages paid.

The Jeanne Bussard Center, Inc has been very successful in creating real world opportunities for disabled workers. If you are interested in learning more about our program, we encourage you to visit with us. Please call 301-663-9588 to arrange a tour and meet with our coordinator.
  • Work Adjustment Training
Work Adjustment Training (WAT) is a service available for persons with disabilities, which prepares them for the world of work. The Jeanne Bussard Center offers WAT as a twelve-week program consisting of individual conferences and or situational assessments. The format used will be determined by individual preference and need. WAT activities may include job tours, assistance with completing applications, resume writing, mock interviewing, job shadowing, trial work periods in the JBC facility on existing assembly, laundry, or other contracts, access to employment resources including the Maryland Job Service or Job Training Agency's Workforce Development Center. The individual is assisted in the development of appropriate work habits and social skills (also called "job coping skills") to be applied on the job. Often WAT is recommended when an individual appears not yet prepared for employment. WAT focuses on enhancing the personal and social development of the individual to increase likelihood of success at an occupation. Topics addressed may include dependability, communication, teamwork, relationships with coworkers or supervisors, etc. WAT is typically funded by the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS).
